‘Undo’ ing Tamil Theatre – Breathing Fresh

Sep 29 As an avid Theatre enthusiast and in particular Tamil Theatre

great relief and unparalleled enthusiasm  seeped in as we watched Theatre Marina’s maiden production ‘Undo’, a Tamil stage play at Mylapore Fine Arts Club, Chennai.
Fresh thoughts, intelligent script, inherent knowledge and beautiful sets and lights set the pace of this contemporary modern drama.
It had elements of our own epic and science so well blended that it was absolutely a mind game of sorts in the time it was staged.
After the last two stage plays we witnessed, we are happy that we never looked at the watch even once during the play.

1364 – Polish King Kazimierz III (Casimir) the Great issues a royal charter establishing a university in Kraków, the capital of Poland at that time.

While there are already some thirty universities in operation in Europe

this is the first university in Poland, and the second oldest in Central Europe.
Charles University in Prague was founded some twenty years earlier, in 1348.
The university has no buildings, the lectures are held in various buildings around the city.
After Kazimierz’s death in 1370, his successor Louis I of Hungary has no interest supporting the Polish university, so the few professors and students move to Prague or other universities.
The kings change, however, and in 1390s, the new king and queen – Władysław II Jagiełło and Jadwiga of Anjou – decide to revive the university and succeed.
Jadwiga even bequeaths part of her private wealth and estate to the university.
The following year, 1400 King Jagiełło donates to the university a house he bought near the edge of the city, and inaugurates reopening of the university on July 26, 1400, with 206 students enrolled.

Poland and aren’t sure whether it’s worth visiting, this essay is for you.
What’s is there to see in Kraków, you may ask.
Take a look at the photos below, highlighting just a few places you might enjoy seeing in this beautiful city, with history going back into the medieval times.
The Wawel Castle.
The Wawel Castle is, of course, a must.
Dating back to the tenth century, it was the seat of the kings of Poland for several hundred years, and includes both Gothic and baroque elements.
You need tickets to go inside the castle, but walking around the Wawel Castle hill, and within the courtyard is free of charge.

The Wawel Castle as seen from Starodomska street Continue reading Krakow

2015 42 Comments Wherever we travel

if we see a playground, my daughter always ask to stop and play, and we let her.
She’s learned to be patient when when we drag her around museums, castles, and other “sightseeing” places we want to see, and we figure she deserves some fun time too.
In general, all playgrounds, event the smallest ones, have a slide, and possibly a swing or some other rocking structure. The bigger ones allow quite extensive climbing structures, and places to run around.
Some playgrounds are quite simple, but some, even small, are quite creative, like the insect-looking play structure in the featured photo above that we stumbled upon in Quebec City.
Here are a few examples of other playgrounds, from several places around the world, submitted by fellow travel bloggers.

Poland = Fun for the whole family

May 21.

2015 30 Comments Have you ever seen a fire tornado

experienced a simulated earthquake, or turned on a light bulb with a stair master.
You can do all that and more at the  (Centrum Nauki Kopernika) in Warsaw, Poland, which opened in 2010, right on the bank of the Vistula river.
We’ve been there twice – once right after it opened, and the second time in January 2013.
Both times not only the kids had a lot of fun, but the grown ups as well.

What can you see at the Copernicus Science Centre?

Well, looking at the Centre website I see that several of the exhibits that my kids loved, have been replaced by new, probably just as exciting exhibits, but a few of the old classics remained: “Roots of Civilization”.
The “Roots of Civilization” area, located on the ground floor, explains how some inventions, some quite ancient, changed the world and contributed to the development of the civilization.
At one of the exhibits, you can see what your name would look like when spelled in Egyptian hieroglyphics.
my name, Jolanta, in hieroglyphics Continue reading Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw, Poland = Fun for the whole family.

Free Parking Waikiki + Cheap Parking Waikiki in 2020

Free Parking Waikiki + Cheap Parking Waikiki in 2020.
February 20, 2020 by 181 Comments Yes.

Free parking Waikiki is possible

even with the exquisite view pictured here.
And tracking free parking Waikiki and cheap parking Waikiki is something we’ve made a tradition for years.
It’s a passion, even a bit of a game if you will.
Yesterday, we scoured Honolulu again and we saved using these tricks.
It is easy to save as much as $35 per night in hotel parking fees, which is no chump change.

Whether you’re staying at a hotel in Waikiki or just parking there for the day

read on to save enough money for an evening on the town!Free Parking Waikiki + Cheap Parking Waikiki in 2020.

There are some easy alternatives to paying ever more expensive parking rates in Waikiki

Below are seven of our favorite places to park in Waikiki

followed by three tips not to be missed.
We’re talking about Honolulu having some of the more costly parking rates in the country.
Here’s our updated list starting at the Ala Moana side of town and heading up to Waikiki’s Diamond Head side.
Please let us know your tips too.
Also, things can change rapidly, so be aware of signs regarding parking regulations.1.
Ala Moana Beach Park.

If you’re staying at any of the hotels near Ala Moana

there is free all day but no longer overnight parking alongside the park on Ala Moana Park Drive.
Always be sure to read signs carefully.
We’re guilty of having gotten a ticket ourselves here by not reading.

Tip: It gets very busy on weekend days with beach goers at Ala Moana

A suggestion is heading to the mall for covered parking during the day.2.
Ala Wai Boat Harbor area, near Hilton Hawaiian Village.
You’ll also still find a lot of free parking behind the Illikai Hotel and the Hilton’s Duke Kahanamoku lagoon.

But remember these free Waikiki parking lots have a 6-hour maximum

Google Maps.
Lots tend to get crowded and people will wait for others to leave.
You will also find a paid lot here that is open 24 hours a day for $1.00 an hour (no in/out privileges).

So if you are staying in the part of Waikiki

you can park at the free lot during the day and this one can work overnight.
Tip: The parking lot on the right side (towards airport) has many more spaces and fewer people queuing for them.
While others sit in their car waiting, park there and you’ll already be at the beach.3.
Ala Wai Canal.
Get there early and you may find free parking along the Ala Wai Canal (no parking Monday or Friday from 8:30am to 11:30am).
Continue on Ala Wai Boulevard until you are on the opposite side of the canal from the convention center for more free spaces available 24 hours a day.
It can happen, we recently found open spaces at around 10:00am.
Image below.4.
Waikiki Shell.
On the Diamond Head side, at the Waikiki Shell, you’ll find free unlimited time parking which is almost always available on Montserrat Avenue.
You can park overnight too.
Do watch for signs indicating occasional closures for special events.
The nearby zoo lot charges $1.50 an hour (credit cards accepted) with a 4-hour maximum at any one time.
We’ve parked overnight here many times over the years without issue.
Tip: This works great for day parking as well as overnight parking at nearby Waikiki Hotels.
Google Maps.5.
Diamond Head Road area.
There is abundant metered parking all along Diamond head road.
Fee is 50 cents per hour and it is free on Sundays and before and after parking regulation hours.
You can park overnight.6.
Kaioo Drive and Wai Nani Streets.

Located at opposite ends of Waikiki

these streets still have free parking too.7.
Side streets off of Kalakaua and Kuhio Avenues.
Here you’ll find metered parking with a range of prices starting at $1 per hour.
Three additional tips.
Parking meters are not enforced on Sundays! Some take credit cards, but definitely not all.
It is highly recommended that you come with a bag of quarters.
Disclosure: We receive a small commission on purchases from some of the links on Beat of Hawaii.
